Siem reap: Cambodia's First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet today led a crucial humanitarian mission to deliver essential aid to thousands of Cambodian citizens displaced by the ongoing border conflict with Thailand. She personally distributed vital supplies to families seeking refuge in temporary safety camps across Siem Reap province.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony and her team assessed the living conditions of approximately 2,400 displaced families, totaling 8,335 individuals, who are currently sheltered in three designated centres: Wat Khnar Techo Safety Centre in Kralanh district: 1,000 families (3,868 people); Wat Char Chhouk Safety Centre in Angkor Chum district: 400 families (1,289 people); and Wat Chroy Neang Buon Safety Centre in Srey Snom district: 1,000 families (3,178 people).
During her visit, Lok Chumteav Dr. Chanmony offered words of encouragement and distributed a wide array of relief items to each family. These packages included medicine, mosquito nets, blankets, mats, pillows, soap, water containers, and personal hygiene supplies. Food provisions, such as rice, dried fish, canned fish, soy sauce, fish sauce, instant noodles, preserved pork, and other necessities, were also provided to alleviate immediate hardships.
The recent border conflict has resulted in widespread destruction, property loss, and tragic casualties among both military personnel and civilians. Thousands have been forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods, underscoring the devastating human cost of the conflict and the urgent need for peace.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the Royal Government of Cambodia has directed all relevant authorities to prioritize the welfare of these displaced citizens. The National Committee for Disaster Management, in collaboration with various ministries and provincial administrations, has worked swiftly to ensure the provision of shelter, food, healthcare, and overall safety for those affected.
In a powerful display of national unity, Cambodians nationwide have rallied to support the humanitarian effort, donating funds, food, medicine, and essential supplies to both frontline soldiers and civilians impacted by the border tensions.
