The Department of Fisheries has spent almost RM2 million to implement the myAgropreneur Perikanan (myAP) and myKomuniti Perikanan (myKP) programmes under the Third Rolling Plan of the 14th Malaysia Plan this year.

Department of Fisheries director-general Datuk Adnan Hussain said the two programmes would benefit about 700 recipients nationwide, involving various types of assistance according to the needs applied for based on fishing activities.

"The myAP programme is a fisheries entrepreneur development programme that focuses on the implementation of entrepreneurial programmes along the value chain of the fisheries sector such as production, processing, marketing and fisheries support industries including agrotourism and recreational fishing.

"The myKP, meanwhile, is a programme based on the concept of local fishing communities that carry out fisheries resource management activities, capture fisheries, aquaculture, basic agro-fishery industries, fisheries support industries including agro-tourism and recreational fisheries,” he told reporters here today.

He said this after the launch of the 2023 South Zone myAP and myKP Entrepreneurs Carnival programme that was officiated by state Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and also attended by Melaka Fisheries director Mohd Fauzi Salehon.

The two-day carnival, which began today, is a platform for fisheries and fisheries support industry entrepreneurs to promote their products to visitors and find agents, distributors or stockists through the concept of business matching involving over 15 fisheries entrepreneurs from Melaka, Johor and Negeri Sembilan.

Adnan said all aid recipients under the myAP and myKP programmes will be given guidance under the Department of Fisheries’ Support Services and Delivery Extension System (SPeKS) to ensure they can increase productivity and competitiveness as fisheries entrepreneurs.

Earlier, at the launch, the Melaka Fisheries Department received an allocation of RM158,500 for the myAP and myKP programmes under SPeKS involving six recipients.

He said RM425,060 was channelled to 15 breeders in the state through the myAp and myKP programmes under SPeKS Aquaculture.
