France Applauds Cambodia-Thailand Ceasefire Implementation

Paris: The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has expressed approval for the commencement of a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, which took effect on December 27. This development came after a meeting of the General Border Committee, signifying a revival of dialogue between the military leaders of the two nations.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, France has urged both countries to fortify the peace achieved. The ministry's statement emphasized the importance of swiftly implementing measures to ensure the safety of their citizens, facilitate the return of displaced individuals, and resolve any disputes peacefully in line with international law.

The statement also noted that the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs had reaffirmed France's commitment to supporting both Cambodia and Thailand, as well as the ASEAN chairmanship, during discussions with his counterparts from the two countries on December 23. In addition to France, nations such as Australia, China, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the United Nations and the European Union, have also expressed their support for the ceasefire agreement.
