Frontline Situation Now Calm After Thai Attack

Preah vihear: The situation along the frontline has remained calm from 12:46 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 27, following a preemptive attack by Thai soldiers earlier in the day, according to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, citing reports from Cambodian forces on the ground.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, she confirmed that after the cessation of Thai shelling, carried out with mortars and multiple small arms, damage was reported to several buildings at the site. Earlier in the day, Thai military forces launched two rounds of fire on Cambodian positions stationed in the An Seh area, situated in An Seh village, Choam Ksan commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province. The first round of fire occurred from 11:52 AM to 12:22 PM, followed by a second round from 12:25 PM to 12:46 PM.

During the occurrences initiated by the Thai side, the Cambodian forces did not retaliate at all. The Cambodian forces strictly adhered to the principle of maintaining maximum restraint and fully implemented the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, which entered into force at 24 hours (local time) on July 28, 2025. It is worth recalling that the ceasefire agreement was reached in a special meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, through the direct efforts of President Donald J. Trump, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and with active participation from the People’s Republic of China. As of Sept. 27, 2025, it has been 60 days since the ceasefire took effect.

H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata highlighted that Cambodian forces continue to monitor the situation with utmost caution and remain vigilant to developments, fully prepared to fulfill their duties in defending Cambodia’s sovereignty. She reaffirmed the Cambodian forces’ strong commitment to respecting and fully implementing the ceasefire agreement with Thailand, emphasizing the continuation of close cooperation at all levels, seeking genuine collaboration, to promote peace and stability between the two countries, and a swift return to normalcy. In this spirit, Cambodia urges Thailand to firmly respect and implement the ceasefire, in good faith and constructively.
