Phnom penh: The positive outcomes of the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) represent a significant step forward in implementing the ceasefire agreement and a crucial milestone in consolidating its effective enforcement, thereby restoring normalcy along the border. The remarks were made by H.E. Pen Bona, Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, at a press briefing this afternoon.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, welcomed the results of the meeting in a message shared on his official Facebook page. The Extraordinary RBC Meeting between Cambodia’s Military Region 3 and Thailand’s Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command, held on Aug. 16 in Thailand’s Trat province, concluded with a strong commitment by both sides to build on the positive momentum to further strengthen bilateral relations and foster closer people-to-people ties.
H.E. Pen Bona recalled that the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand was first reached at the Special Meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The meeting was hosted by Malaysia, co-organised by the United States of America, and actively participated in by the People’s Republic of China. The agreement was later reaffirmed and consolidated at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on Aug. 7, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with observers from China, the United States, and Malaysia.
‘The positive outcomes of the Extraordinary RBC Meeting provide a solid foundation for strengthening the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and at the same time indicate positive progress in peacefully resolving the border issue between the two countries,’ he emphasised.
