Government to Discuss a New 150-megawatt Power Dam Project on Friday

The Royal Government of Cambodia will discuss a new 150-megawatt hydropower dam project, located in Koh Kong province’s Thmar Bang district, in the weekly cabinet meeting tomorrow.

According to a statement of the Royal Government Spokesman Unit, the dam project will be on the agenda of the meeting along with the 500-kilovolt transmission line from Phnom Penh to Cambodia-Laos border and from Battambang province to Cambodia-Thailand border.

The 150-megawatt power dam project was proposed for feasibility study by Chinese firms in September last year.

H.E. Victor Jona, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, previously said that the 150-megawatt power dam is located upstream of the Tatay River or about 20 kilometres upstream of Stung Tatay River Hydropower Dam, put into operation in 2015.

Regarding the 500-kilovolt transmission line project from Phnom Penh to Cambodia-Laos border, it is for transferring power (2,400 megawatts) imported by Cambodia through EDC from Laos.
