H.E. Sun Chanthol Seeks UK’s Support for Capacity Building and Operation of Techo Sen Institute of Public Works and Transport

Cambodian Senior Minister has requested the United Kingdom (UK) to provide lecturers and either direct or online short training courses, and examine the possibility of assisting the operation of the Techo Sen Institute of Public Works and Transport (TSI) to train Cambodian engineers to have specific skills and enough ability to contribute to Cambodia’s better infrastructure.
The request was made by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, while receiving a courtesy visit from H.E. Dominic Williams, newly appointed British Ambassador to Cambodia, at the ministry office yesterday.
During the meeting, H.E. Sun Chanthol informed his guest about transportation infrastructure development projects on which the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has been working, especially urban public transport sector such as AGT (Automated Guideway Transit) system, subway, monorail development projects to help reduce traffic congestion in Phnom Penh.

The senior minister also laid stress on the feasibility study of a project to upgrade northern Phnom Penh-Poipet rail line, continued promotion of electronic vehicles (EVs) use, and waterway transport on Bassac River connected to a seaport in Kampot province.
For his part, H.E. Dominic Williams expressed his high interest in the projects mentioned by the Cambodian minister, and he took the opportunity to invite the leaders of MPWT to attend a consultation programme on some development projects, particularly Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) in Phnom Penh, and a workshop on “Mobilising Private Sector for Sustainable Development in Cambodia) to be held by the British Embassy on Feb. 10.
In reply, H.E. Sun Chanthol accepted the invitation and confirmed to appoint his senior officials to take part in the above programme.

After the meeting, H.E. Dominic William and his colleagues were invited to visit main areas of MPWT and TSI.
