Interior Ministry Denounces Inaccurate Thai Media Reports on Cambodian Incident

Phnom penh: The Ministry of Interior of Cambodia has dismissed reports from Thai media that alleged no Cambodian casualties occurred during an incident on November 12, where Thai soldiers opened fire on residents of Prey Chan village, O'Beichoan commune, O'Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. The Ministry confirmed only the death of one individual and three serious injuries from the incident.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ministry issued a statement clarifying that Thai armed forces fired multiple rounds from M16 rifles at Cambodian citizens in Prey Chan village. The firing resulted in the death of Dy Nai, a 36-year-old male resident of the village, and caused severe injuries to three others who are currently receiving medical treatment.

The Ministry's statement detailed the results of an autopsy conducted by Cambodian specialized authorities. The examination revealed an abrasion on the facial skin of the deceased and a penetrating wound in the upper left chest. A bullet was found lodged beneath the skin over the right ribcage. The bullet, characterized by a diameter of 5.7 millimetres and a length of 23 millimetres with six helical grooves, was surgically removed in the presence of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

The investigative committee also discovered that three civilians were seriously injured about 100 metres from the firing location, while the deceased, Dy Nai, was found approximately 180 metres away from where the Thai forces had opened fire. The Thai armed forces were reported to have fired from two positions targeting Prey Chan village.

The statement concluded by affirming that Dy Nai was killed by the Thai armed forces on November 12, 2025, contradicting Thai media reports that misrepresented the incident to the international community. The findings confirmed that the bullet pierced vital organs, leading to his death.
