Phnom penh: Two officers from the Lao People's Democratic Republic have joined the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in Cambodia to help observe and verify the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border following the implementation of the ceasefire.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a statement issued by the Spokeswoman of Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence on July 23 revealed that officers from the Department of International Relations and the Cambodia Liaison Group (CLG) welcomed the deployment of Lt. Col. Khamph©t Fonglamay and Lt. Col. Singsavan Vongsouvanh at 1:00 p.m.
The ASEAN Observer Team, led by the Philippines, the rotating ASEAN Chair, is tasked with observing and verifying the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border after the ceasefire took effect.
The statement highlighted Cambodia's support for the ASEAN Observer Team's work in ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. It noted that the team's presence aids in promoting transparency, building mutual trust, and protecting the lives of citizens.
Cambodia expressed its readiness to welcome friendly countries to deploy observers or participate in peace-building efforts.
The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of National Defence reiterated their commitment to fully implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) adopted on Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on Oct. 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements.
The statement mentioned that this commitment aims to ensure a rapid recovery, restore normalcy, and promote lasting peace and stability.
