The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah today received business tithes or zakat payments amounting to RM16.86 million from 11 corporate firms on behalf of the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) at Istana Changkat Persekutuan, Kuala Lumpur.
MAIPk in a statement said Tenaga Nasional Berhad represented by its chief regulatory and stakeholder management officer Datuk Shamsul Ahmad, led the list with RM6.36 million, while Lembaga Tabung Haji, represented by its group managing director and chief executive officer Syed Hamadah Syed Othman paid RM6.21 million.
The other companies that paid the zakat were Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad and Etiqa General Takaful Berhad (RM1.06 million); Bank Rakyat (RM773,987); FGV Holdings Berhad (RM707,199); Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Berhad and Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Am Berhad (RM500,000); Maybank Islamic Berhad (RM437,597.51); Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (RM249,428.19); Agrobank (RM241,303.47); Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd (RM221,294.26), and Public Islamic Bank Berhad (RM100,000).
Also present at the ceremony were MAIPk president Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini, Perak Mufti Datuk Wan Zahidi Wan Teh, Perak Islamic Religious Affairs Department director Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim, Chief Syarie Judge of Perak, Datuk Ab Rahman Thobroni Mohd Mansor and MAIPk chief executive officer Shahrul Azam Shaari.
