Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Engages with Asian Development Bank Delegation

Phnom penh: H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, recently welcomed Mr. Nianshan Zhang, Director General for Southeast Asia at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), during a courtesy visit. The meeting underscored the ongoing collaboration between Cambodia and the ADB, with a focus on enhancing the nation's water management infrastructure to combat climate change impacts.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Minister expressed his appreciation for ADB's enduring support in Cambodia's socio-economic development. He highlighted the critical importance of water resource management in driving multi-sectoral economic growth, extending beyond agriculture. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) is actively addressing water security challenges, particularly in mitigating water shortages during dry seasons.

Mr. Nianshan Zhang commended the existing cooperation between ADB and MOWRAM, pledging to further strengthen their partnership. He emphasized ADB's commitment to understanding the Ministry's priorities and challenges, ensuring future investments align with Cambodia's strategic goals. Current projects funded by ADB include the Climate-Friendly Agribusiness Value Chains Sector Project, the Irrigated Agriculture Improvement Project, and the Integrated Water Resources Management Projects.
