Phnom penh: The Ministry of Information has called on content creators, social media users, and the general public to exercise heightened caution and verify sources before posting online.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in a statement issued on July 29, the ministry underscored the need for responsible use of social media platforms, citing a recent surge in inflammatory content. The ministry has observed instances of inappropriate language, manipulated images and videos, and offensive commentary targeting individuals, national leaders, and the monarchy.
Such content, it warned, can incite public unrest and foster misinformation, potentially fueling hatred, violence, and discrimination. To curb these risks, the ministry reiterated its call for greater responsibility in digital expression, urging users to uphold civility and accuracy when engaging on online platforms.
The statement further emphasized that all individuals, regardless of background, must immediately cease posting inflammatory content that damages the honour and dignity of individuals, senior leaders, or monarchs of another nation, especially during periods of tensions between Cambodia and that country.
The ministry also extended its appreciation to journalists, digital creators, and the broader online community for promoting Cambodia's voice globally and advocating for peaceful conflict resolution. It commended their contributions toward ethical reporting and respect for international law and human rights.
