Government of Cambodia is working with a Chinese firm to study the construction of new National Road No. 10 connecting Battambang, Pursat and Koh Kong with the northern provinces of the country.
The discussion for the road construction study took place recently between a delegation of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport led by its Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol, officials of other ministries concerned and the team of Bridge Road Corporation of China the firm to conduct the study.
In the meeting, H.E. Sun Chanthol, also a Senior Minister, requested the Chinese team to work closely with concerned authorities, especially the Ministry of Environment, to prevent opportunists from illegally chopping the trees out of the context.
Particular attention, he underlined, should be centred around environmental impact resulted by deforestation and depletion of wildlife habitat.
Once in place, the national road will contribute essentially to promoting exports of especially agricultural products, facilitating transportation of goods and reducing costs.
