NBC Governor Shares Cambodia’s Digital Payment Experience at Global Financial Forum in China

Chengdu: H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), attended the Tsinghua PBCSF Global Financial Forum held on May 18 in Chengdu, People's Republic of China.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the forum was organised by Tsinghua University, one of the world's leading higher education institutions. H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, invited by Tsinghua University, engaged in discussions with senior public officials, including former prime ministers, central bank governors from both developed and developing countries, and professors from internationally renowned universities. The discussions focused on the evolving global financial system and strategic financial priorities.

During a panel discussion on 'Digital Currency and Cross-border Payments,' the NBC Governor shared Cambodia's experience in developing digital payment systems. She outlined the country's future direction for enhancing cross-border payment connectivity, addressing emerging opportunities and challenges in the digital finance landscape.

The annual forum serves as a platform for senior financial leaders, policymakers, academics, and researchers worldwide to discuss major developments and emerging issues in the global economy and financial sector. This year's event saw participation from prime ministers, deputy prime ministers, central bank governors, ministers, Nobel laureates, deans, and professors from leading universities worldwide.

While in Chengdu, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey also met with Mr. Oliver Jenkyn, Chief Executive Officer of Visa Inc., to discuss the progress of cooperation between NBC and Visa on payment system initiatives, including the Bakong tourism programme. They further explored cooperation in areas such as fraud investigation, payment interoperability, and expanding connectivity between the Bakong system and other international payment platforms.
