(Olympics) S. Korea looking to finish competition with flourish

The Paris Olympics will draw to a conclusion Sunday, but not before South Korean athletes chase medals in weightlifting and modern pentathlon. Park Hye-jeong is regarded as a strong medal threat in the women's heaviest weight class in weightlifting, +81 kilograms. But Li Wenwen of China, the defending champion and world record holder in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total weight, is expected to dominate the competition once again, leaving Park and others to battle for silver. Park, 21, owns the South Korean national records with 130kg in the snatch, 170kg in the clean and jerk, and 296kg in the total weight. That total would have been good enough for silver at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Also on Sunday, medals will be awarded in the women's modern pentathlon. Seong Seung-min, the 2024 world champion for South Korea, and three-time Olympian Kim Sun-woo will both be in pursuit of their first medals. No South Korean woman has won a modern pentathlon medal.
