Online Catalogue of Provincial Museums on Internet Launched

The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh has launched the Online Catalogue of Six Provincial Museums on Internet aiming to promote the Khmer heritage to the public and researchers who seek further understanding on Khmer cultural heritage in the provinces.

The launching ceremony was held on Sept. 19 under the presidency of H.E. Prak Sovannara, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.

The six museums involved in this project are Takeo Provincial Museum, Angkor Borei District Museum, Prey Veng Provincial Museum, Pursat Provincial Museum, Kampong Thom Provincial Museum, and Kampong Chhnang Provincial Museum.

The main purpose of the project is to modify and expand the collection database owned by the National Museum of Cambodia (NMC) for many years to provincial museums, and to include the collection data of the six provincial museums in the catalogue that will be posted on the internet, as already did the NMC since 2014.

H.E. Prak Sovannara said that this will ensure a long-term security for the preservation of all museum archives.

“This achievement is part of the documentation and conservation of Khmer heritage data,” he stressed.

He profoundly thanked the U.S. government, especially the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia for their active contribution to the protection of Cambodia’s heritage.
