PM Hun Sen Supports the Outcome of Two New Varieties of Rice

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen expressed his full support to two new varieties of rice recently introduced to the farmers.

While presiding over the closing ceremony of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ annual meeting here this afternoon, Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined the proud achievement that Cambodia can produce and grow our own varieties of rice.

“I really appreciate the achievements of the ongoing agricultural technical research associated with research and cultivation,” he said.

The two new varieties of rice are Champei Sar 70 and Kang Rei. Champei Sar 70 is the research result of Dr. Ouk Makara, former director of CARDI while Kang Rei is that of Dr. Khun Leang Hak, said H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Champei Sar 70 is a premium rice variety that farmers could harvest in short periods between 93-97 days giving between 3.2 and 4.9 tonnes per hectare on average, whereas Kang Rei can be grown in a shorter period than Champei Sar 70, i.e. from 78 to 84 days with an average yield of 4.3 to 7.1 tonnes per hectare, he added.
