Farmers in Preah Vihear province are enjoying good harvest and lucrative business of green beans, according to the Provincial Information Department.
The source cited a farmer Mr. Van Vuthy saying that in average one ton of green bean can be harvested from a hectare of farm land, which is a good yield comparing to the previous years.
The quality of the crops, he added, is very good and it can be sold for 3,500 Riel [about US$0.87] per kilogramme, while it was 1,700 Riel last year.
The Head of Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Mr. Poeung Trida echoed the good news, stressing that both the quality and price of this year's green bean are very encouraging for farmers.
Green bean is being grown on about 10,000 hectares of farm land in Preah Vihear this year, and farmers can cultivate three times of the crops annually.
