Phnom penh: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has called on residents across Cambodia's provinces and capital to remain vigilant as rain accompanied by gusts, thunder, and lightning may occur with a probability of up to 20 percent.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the ministry's weather bulletin issued on Mar. 6 highlights that the northeast monsoon prevailing over the South China Sea, the Mekong Basin, and the Cambodian Sea is influencing weather conditions across the Kingdom. From Mar. 6 to 8, 2026, lowland areas are expected to experience minimum temperatures of around 23 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius, with northeast and east winds at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Provinces including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Siem Reap, Prey Veng, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Cham, Thbong Khmum, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh may see rain with gusts, thunder, and lightning covering about 20 percent of the area.
In the highland areas, minimum temperatures are forecast at 22 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures at 35 degrees Celsius, with north and northeast winds averaging 2 meters per second. Provinces such as Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Rattanakiri, and Mondulkiri, including the Dangrek and Cardamom mountain ranges, may experience rain, gusts, thunder, and lightning covering around 15 percent of the area.
For the coastal areas, temperatures are expected to range between 23 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius, with southwest and southeast winds averaging 3 meters per second. Provinces including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain range may experience rain accompanied by gusts, thunder, and lightning covering about 20 percent of the area. Sea waves are forecast to range from 0.50 meters to 1.00 meter in height on average.
