Paris: The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in France has advised all travellers bound for Cambodia to avoid transiting through Bangkok to prevent potential complications.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Embassy's travel advisory dated Dec. 16, 2025, highlights that travellers have reported recurring difficulties during air transit at Bangkok Airport (Thailand). The Embassy has received information regarding European passengers in transit being subjected to excessive and unacceptable checks, which include prolonged interrogations prior to boarding, unreasonable requests for proof of financial resources, and detailed verification of accommodation reservations in Cambodia.
In certain instances, these stringent controls have led to incidents involving searches and baggage handling, resulting in the loss of checked luggage, as observed upon arrival in Phnom Penh.
The Embassy has urged travellers to consider alternative travel itineraries that bypass Thailand and to opt for airlines offering more favourable transit conditions for journeys to Cambodia. Although the described situations occur outside Cambodian territory and are not under the jurisdiction of Cambodian authorities, they may negatively impact the travel experience.
The Embassy reassured that the Kingdom of Cambodia remains a safe and welcoming travel destination.
