Russia’s GAZ Group Explores Investment Opportunities in Cambodia’s Automotive Sector

Kazan: Russian automotive manufacturer GAZ Group has expressed strong interest in exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia's automotive industry during a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting took place on the afternoon of June 18 on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia commemorative summit marking the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations, held in Kazan, Russian Federation, from June 17-18, 2026. During the meeting, Mr. Dolgov Leonid, Export Director of GAZ Group, briefed the Prime Minister on the company's operations in Russia and across several ASEAN markets. GAZ Group, with nearly 90 years of experience in the automotive industry, operates 15 manufacturing plants, exports vehicles to 43 countries, and maintains a network of 240 distributors. Its product range includes commercial vehicles, medium-duty trucks, buses, ambulances, and automotive components. Mr. Leonid stated that as the company continues expand ing its business presence in ASEAN and observes Cambodia's economic growth, GAZ Group sees strong potential and is interested in identifying investment opportunities in Cambodia's automotive sector. In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the company's interest and highlighted the Royal Government's policies and mechanisms designed to support successful investment projects in Cambodia. The Prime Minister also encouraged GAZ Group to explore opportunities in developing automotive supply chains in Cambodia to support regional production networks under the 'Plus One Strategy.' Samdech Thipadei further recommended the company to continue discussions with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to further explore investment opportunities and long-term business growth in the Kingdom.
