Samdech Khuon Sudary and Chinese Vice Chairman Reaffirm Strong Parliamentary Cooperation and Support for the Cambodia-China Tourism Year

Phnom penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, welcomed Hon. Jian Can, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of the Xizang Autonomous Region of China, for a meeting at the National Assembly Palace. During the meeting, both leaders emphasized their commitment to enhancing Cambodia-China parliamentary cooperation and supporting the Cambodia-China Tourism Year 2025.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Khuon Sudary acknowledged the progress in bilateral parliamentary relations, emphasizing the successful implementation of the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding on Parliamentary Cooperation. This agreement has broadened collaboration between the two legislatures and their Secretariat-Generals. She also highlighted her visits to China, which have strengthened the 'ironclad' friendship and advanced the Joint Statement on building an All-Weather Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future.

Samdech Khuon Sudary appreciated China's role in facilitating the "Tea Chat Dialogue" with foreign ministers of China, Cambodia, and Thailand, which contributed to easing border tensions and supporting a ceasefire agreement. She expressed hope for China's continued mediation to promote peace, stability, and adherence to international law, the UN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

Reaffirming Cambodia's support for the One-China policy, she reiterated backing for China's positions on Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Xizang, while opposing external interference. She thanked China for supporting the Funan Techo Canal Project, which is crucial for regional connectivity, economic development, and Cambodia's sovereign resilience.

As 2025 marks the Cambodia-China Tourism Year, Samdech encouraged increased travel and exchanges between the two nations, seeking China's assistance in boosting Chinese tourist numbers to Cambodia. She also explored opportunities for Cambodians to visit China for various purposes, including tourism and education.

Hon. Jian Can emphasized the robust Cambodia-China strategic partnership, rooted in political trust and mutual respect. He expressed gratitude for Cambodia's unwavering support of China's core interests and assured that China remains a committed development partner for Cambodia.

He shared insights into Xizang's development over six decades, highlighting advancements in human development, economic growth, and infrastructure. He pointed out Xizang's potential for collaboration with Cambodia in green energy and ecological governance.

Before concluding, Hon. Jian Can extended an invitation to Samdech Khuon Sudary for an official visit to Xizang, emphasizing the importance of direct exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship.
