Samdech Khuon Sudary Stresses Unity and Trust in Leadership to Defend Sovereignty

Phnom penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, emphasized the importance of unity and trust in leadership in Cambodia’s response to perceived threats to its sovereignty. She asserted that the leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet is guided by respect for international law and a commitment to maintaining peace as a countermeasure to what she described as Thailand’s aggression.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Khuon Sudary highlighted Cambodia’s pursuit of peace not only for its citizens but also for the people of both nations involved, the ASEAN Community, and the broader global context. In a gathering held on September 27, she reiterated that diplomacy and adherence to international law form the core of Cambodia’s foreign policy. Furthermore, she expressed her appreciation for the sacrifices made by Cambodian soldiers and cautioned citizens against divisive narratives propagated by extremists, emphasizing that unity is essential for survival.

In her address, Khuon Sudary pointed to Cambodia’s diplomatic milestones, notably a ceasefire initiative mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump and facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim with backing from international partners, particularly China. She stressed Cambodia’s dedication to the establishment and deployment of ASEAN Observer Teams (AOT) and expressed concerns over the ceasefire’s fragility due to ongoing violations by Thailand. Strengthening the role of observer teams to ensure effective ceasefire enforcement was identified as a priority.

Khuon Sudary also recalled her speech at the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Malaysia, where she criticized Thailand’s actions as embodying the ‘rule of the jungle’ and reiterated Cambodia’s desire for peace and harmony within ASEAN. During the event, she encouraged members of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Women’s Movement to foster solidarity, maintain a connection with the populace, and uphold a responsible and active approach to secure the party’s electoral success. Winning public trust and confidence in both the government and the party, she noted, are crucial elements.
