Senate President Advocates for Enhanced Cambodia-South Korea Relations

Phnom penh: Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has called for the elevation of Cambodia-South Korea relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership ahead of the countries' 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo made these remarks during a courtesy call from the newly appointed South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Kim Chang-yong, at the Senate's Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh. He pointed out that bilateral relations have expanded across nearly all sectors, making the proposed upgrade timely.

During the meeting, Samdech Techo congratulated Ambassador Kim on his appointment, noting that the envoy's presence signifies South Korea's high regard for its relationship with Cambodia. He recalled the strengthening of ties since 1996 and expressed hope for joint commemorative activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary in 2027.

Ambassador Kim expressed gratitude for the meeting and commended Samdech Techo's role in building the foundation for bilateral relations. He noted that under Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the relationship has reached the level of a Strategic Partnership. The Ambassador expressed confidence in further upgrading ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and committed to expanding cooperation during his tenure.
