Senate President Celebrates 70 Years of Cambodia’s UN Membership

Phnom penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, extended his congratulations on the 70th anniversary of Cambodia's accession to the United Nations.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen marked the occasion by sharing a message on his official social media platforms, reflecting on Cambodia's membership in the United Nations since December 14, 1955. He highlighted the United Nations' role in maintaining international peace and security, promoting international cooperation under international law, supporting economic development, and facilitating dispute resolution among member states.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasized Cambodia's contributions to UN peacekeeping and stabilization operations, noting that the country has deployed a significant number of blue helmet troops in the past decade. These troops, comprising both women and men, have been part of international missions in countries like Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, the Central African Republic, Syria, Cyprus, and Mali.

The Cambodian blue helmet forces are known for their expertise in engineering, Level-2 medical services, mine clearance, gendarmerie duties, and explosive ordnance disposal. Recently, Cambodia has been recognized for its efforts in promoting the participation of female peacekeepers in United Nations missions.

In addition, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet also conveyed his congratulations on Cambodia's 70th anniversary of accession to the United Nations, underscoring the significance of this milestone for the nation.
