Spokesperson Confirms Continued Detention of 18 Cambodian Soldiers by Thai Forces

Phnom penh: The 18 Cambodian soldiers captured by Thai military forces after the ceasefire took effect have not yet been released, the Ministry of National Defence confirmed today. Its Spokesperson, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, once again urged the Thai side to immediately return the soldiers to Cambodia. 'Their families have been waiting every minute and every second to reunite with them,' she underlined.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, as of 4:00 p.m. today, the soldiers have been illegally detained for 34 days, 8 hours, and 10 minutes, she added. Cambodia reiterated its firm commitment to fully respecting the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect at 24:00 on July 28, 2025, as well as the spirit of the 13-point agreed minutes reached at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on Aug. 7, 2025, and reaffirmed during the recent Regional Border Committee (RBC) meetings.
