Spokeswoman Urges Thailand to Demonstrate Sincerity for Peace

Phnom penh: Thailand must show sincerity and goodwill if it truly desires real peace, as peace cannot come only through words but requires concrete actions. H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, made this statement at a press briefing this morning.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata emphasized that Thailand has chosen to use threats and force without regard for international law, continuing its aggressive actions unchecked. She warned that if no action is taken to hold the Thai army accountable for its illegal actions, the situation could escalate. Today, the Thai army invades Cambodia; tomorrow, it might target other weaker or smaller countries. This, she underlined, could seriously affect peace and security throughout the region.

The spokeswoman demanded that the Thai army immediately cease all aggressive actions, stop spreading false information, and halt indiscriminate attacks, particularly those affecting civilians and civilian infrastructure. She also highlighted the destruction of historical sites, which are valuable cultural assets for both Cambodia and humanity, as a grave concern.

She called on the international community to strongly condemn Thailand's violations of the Joint Declaration and its repeated unlawful activities, urging Thailand to take full responsibility for its actions. H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata reiterated that Cambodia's self-defence targets only Thai military positions and not civilian areas, consistently upholding obligations under international, especially humanitarian, law.

Cambodia remains committed to respecting and implementing the terms of the Ceasefire Agreement and the Joint Declaration between Cambodia and Thailand, as well as all agreements previously reached. Rather than resorting to aggression, Cambodia adheres to resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law, seeking just, fair, and long-lasting solutions.

In this context, Cambodia calls on Thailand to honor the Ceasefire Agreement and the Joint Declaration, signed on Oct. 26, 2025, under the witness of U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister, H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, as ASEAN's rotating Chair. It is noteworthy that Cambodian forces have been resolute in protecting Cambodia's territorial integrity.
