Thai Forces Fire Toxic Gas into Civilian Residential Area

Phnom penh: The Thai military has fired toxic gas into O'Beichoan commune, O'Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, an area of civilian residences.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a press release issued by the Ministry of National Defence this afternoon reported that the attack occurred at 2:22 p.m. The Ministry has condemned the actions, stating that they represent an indiscriminate attack by the Thai military and a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

Since December 7, the Thai military has renewed its attacks on Cambodian territory, expanding operations across multiple locations in Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat provinces. These operations have involved the use of heavy weapons, F-16 fighter jets, and toxic gas. The attacks have resulted in civilian casualties, damage to homes, temples, and health centres, the closure of hundreds of schools, and the displacement of thousands of civilians along the border.

Cambodia has stated that it has no choice but to counterattack in self-defence against military operations that violate its territorial integrity, after exercising more than 24 hours of restraint.
