Banteay meanchey: Thai forces launched additional shelling into the area of Prey Chan village, O'Beichoan commune, O'Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, where civilians reside. The attack occurred at 07:52 a.m. on Dec. 11, according to a press release issued this morning by the Ministry of National Defence.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ministry stated that the actions taken by the Thai military are considered brutal and constitute an indiscriminate attack, marking a serious violation of international humanitarian law. The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) emphasized its dedication to the Royal Government's policy of pursuing peaceful resolutions to border disputes, while simultaneously defending Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The RCAF reiterated its respect for all ceasefire arrangements and its priority of protecting civilian lives.
Since Dec. 7, the Thai military has renewed its attacks on Cambodian territory, expanding operations across various provinces including Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat. These operations have involved the use of heavy weapons, F-16 fighter jets, and toxic gas, leading to civilian casualties, and causing damage to homes, temples, and health centers. The attacks have also resulted in the temporary closure of hundreds of schools and the displacement of thousands of civilians. Cambodia has asserted that it was compelled to respond in self-defense to repeated violations of its territorial integrity after exercising more than 24 hours of maximum restraint.
