Sa Kaeo: The border crossing at Sa Kaeo, a key transit point between Thailand and Cambodia, has been witnessing frequent closures following a clash between troops in May. These disruptions have significantly affected travel and commerce in the region, causing unease among the local populace.
According to Deutsche Welle, both Thailand and Cambodia have mobilized troops along their shared border, sparking fears of prolonged tensions. Despite military assurances that the closures are not affecting local life, residents near the Cambodian border are reminded of past conflicts. Suthian Phewchan, a local farmer, expressed his worries, stating, "I'm worried about my family and relatives in our village and community. We experienced this once before in 2011."
The ongoing situation has revived old fears among the residents, as they recall previous episodes of border conflicts that had similar impacts on their daily lives. Many are concerned about the potential for escalation and the resulting effects on their communities and livelihoods.
