Thailand Escalates Attacks on Cambodian Sovereign Territory

Phnom penh: Since yesterday evening, Thai forces have escalated their aggressive and indiscriminate attacks on Cambodia's sovereign territory, particularly in the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat. Addressing a press briefing this morning, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, reported that from 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 26 to 7:00 a.m. on Dec. 27, the Thai military fired approximately 500 shells into the areas of Boeung Trakuon, Prey Chan village, Chouk Chey village, Phnom Prek, and Sampov Loun district.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Thai forces also deployed drones to drop 10 warheads on the O' Pluk Damrei area and used F-16 fighter jets to bombard Sangkat Kampong Svay in Serei Sophorn city, Banteay Meanchey province. Reports indicate that the bombs were dropped near Hun Sen Kla Kon High School, causing widespread panic among students.

Moreover, the Thai military employed heavy artillery, F-16 fighter jets, DTI-2 multiple rocket launchers, tanks, armoured vehicles mounted with heavy guns, machine guns, drones, and infantry units to attack areas in Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces, in pursuit of their ambitions to invade Cambodian territory.

At the time of the report, the attacks were ongoing. Cambodian forces are responding firmly, closely monitoring developments along the border, and remain vigilant and resolute in fulfilling their duty to safeguard Cambodia's territorial integrity and national dignity.
