Phnom penh: Turkish defense company STM launched the third and final vessel in a three-ship light corvette class at Istanbul Naval Shipyard on Sunday, completing the construction phase for the Royal Malaysian Navy.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the vessel is now undergoing outfitting, integration, and testing, with delivery scheduled for 2027. Malaysia's armed forces chief, Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman, stated that the corvette will enhance the navy's capabilities in complex environments and foster bilateral defense cooperation.
Mustafa Murat Seker, deputy head of Turkiye's Defense Industry Agency, highlighted that the ship integrates systems from about 50 Turkish defense firms. Turkiye and Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding on government-to-government procurement of defense products in Ankara in June 2024.
