U.S. Navy Ship Docks at Ream Naval Base for Five-Day Visit, Highlighting Cambodia-U.S. Military Cooperation

Preah sihanouk: The United States Navy warship USS CINCINNATI (LCS 20), carrying approximately 100 crew members, arrived at Ream Naval Base in Preah Sihanouk province this morning for a five-day visit until Jan. 28, as part of efforts to promote and strengthen military cooperation between Cambodia and the U.S. The ship's arrival was warmly welcomed by Rear Admiral In Sokhemara, Deputy Commander of Ream Naval Base of the Royal Cambodian Navy.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the USS CINCINNATI weighs approximately 3,000 tonnes and measures about 130 metres in length. It is equipped with a helicopter landing deck and is commanded by Lieutenant Commander Andrew J. Recame. During the port visit, the Cambodian and U.S. navies will conduct joint training activities and friendly sports events to further strengthen ties and mutual understanding.

Cambodia views this visit as a demonstration of its commitment to an open and transparent policy and cooperation with international partners, contributing to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region. The Kingdom continues to support peace, stability, and prosperity in ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific through cooperation based on respect for sovereignty and international law.

The USS CINCINNATI is the third foreign naval vessel to dock at Ream Naval Base since the base was upgraded and officially inaugurated in 2025, following visits by naval vessels from Japan and Vietnam. Diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the United States date back 76 years, beginning on July 11, 1950, following the end of World War II. Over the years, the navies of both countries have maintained regular exchanges through joint training programmes, courtesy calls, and various forms of cooperation and assistance.

From 2003 to 2026, U.S. Navy vessels have made a total of 31 port calls to Cambodia, involving 37 ships.
