Phnom penh: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has officially lauded the Government of Australia for its unwavering, decades-long commitment to mine action in Cambodia, a partnership that remains a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s humanitarian and developmental progress. Since 2006, Australia has contributed over US$35.2 million through the “Clearing for Results” project. This funding has enabled the clearance of more than 153 square kilometres of land, benefiting over 540,000 people and expanding physical rehabilitation services to more than 20,000 survivors.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the cooperation between Australia and the UNDP has not only enhanced mine clearance for the safety of the Cambodian people but has also significantly contributed to the country’s progress across other sectors and its goal of becoming mine-free.
