Hanoi:Vietnam is looking to develop its medical tourism sector to diversify its tourism offerings, enhance healthcare services, and generate economic value. The country aims to establish a professional, safe, and high-quality medical tourism service chain by 2030, with competitive products and destinations in the region.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ministry of Health has drafted a plan for medical tourism development for the period 2026-2030. This plan aligns with various resolutions and aims to make medical tourism a key economic driver. The initiative seeks to improve healthcare services, attract investment, and reduce the need for Vietnamese people to seek treatment abroad.
The plan outlines the establishment of at least 20 hospitals with international quality accreditation, including five public hospitals, to standardize medical services and build trust among international patients. Eight priority localities have been identified for developing medical tourism destinations, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Phu Quoc, based on their healthcare capacity and tourism resources.
The draft plan proposes five core service groups to cater to diverse healthcare needs, including health screening, dentistry, specialized treatment, traditional medicine, and wellness services. It also suggests solutions focusing on policy improvements, coordination mechanisms, and incentives to attract private investment. Ensuring patient safety and maintaining healthcare quality for domestic residents are emphasized as essential principles for the sector's development.
