Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning reiterated that the Voice of Democracy (VOD) whose licence had been revoked for breaching profession of journalism will have no chance to reopen.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for almost 2,000 students of Human Resource University, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the only chance is that the VOD’s full-time staff who lost their job can join the civil service.
All full-time staff of VOD can apply to work with the government until Feb. 28, 2023, at 05:00 pm, he said.
This opportunity was announced by Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Feb. 14, 2023 after the Ministry of Information revoke the VOD’s licence, after it refused to amend mistakes regarding its news article alleging that H.E. Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, the Prime Minister’s eldest son, had been a signatory to a humanitarian donation of US$100,000 to Turkey hit by earthquake.
The accusation is an insult to the Royal Government, causes mistrust in the Council of Ministers and violates the National Budget Law, which cannot be tolerated, the Premier underlined.
The shutdown of an unprofessional radio will not undermine the press freedom in Cambodia, in contrast this will help the country with law enforcement and strengthen the profession of journalism, Samdech Techo Hun Sen explained.
