Phnom penh: Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence announced that the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) carried out a field mission to observe the border situation at the Choam International Border Checkpoint and surrounding areas in Trapaing Prey commune, Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the mission, which took place at 9:05 a.m. on June 18, was coordinated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) in collaboration with the AOT, led by the Head of Mission from the Philippines. The purpose of the mission was to observe, verify, and report on the conditions in the area, in addition to reviewing compliance with measures outlined in the Joint Statement following the ceasefire.
The ministry's statement emphasized the need to accelerate border demarcation efforts through the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) mechanism. It referenced Point 3 of the Joint Statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, which focuses on facilitating the safe, peaceful, and dignified return of affected civilians.
Cambodia reiterated its stance of not recognizing any border alterations resulting from the use of force. It reaffirmed its commitment to resolving border issues through established agreements and peaceful means, and expressed continued support for the AOT's role in monitoring and supporting the implementation of ceasefire arrangements and agreed measures with Thailand.
The statement also underlined Cambodia's dedication to promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust, and welcomed assistance from friendly nations in these efforts.
