AOT Embarks on Inspection in Battambang Province Amid Ceasefire

Battambang: The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) conducted an inspection mission this morning in Battambang province's Sampov Loun and Phnom Proek districts. This mission follows the enforcement of a ceasefire, as stated by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, the Spokeswoman of Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the inspection, coordinated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG), included visits to civilian sites and infrastructure, notably housing and a referral hospital, which suffered severe damage due to Thai military attacks in December 2025. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata emphasized Cambodia's steadfast support for the AOT and highlighted the critical role of the team in verifying and ensuring the effective implementation of the ceasefire, as well as fostering transparency, accountability, and mutual trust between involved parties.

Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata reiterated the Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia's commitment to fully adhere to the agreements made in the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee dated December 27, 2025, and the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand from October 26, 2025.

The spokeswoman stressed that these efforts aim for a swift return to normalcy, peace, stability, and long-term security along the Cambodia-Thailand border, striving for rapid improvement in the region.
