Phnom penh: Cambodia stated on Saturday that Thailand persisted in bombing its territory, contradicting US President Donald Trump's assertion that the two countries had agreed to cease hostilities. The longstanding conflict between the Southeast Asian neighbors, rooted in a colonial-era dispute over their 800-kilometer frontier, has resulted in the displacement of approximately half a million people from both sides. According to France24.com, the Cambodian defense ministry reported in an X post that on December 13, 2025, the Thai military employed two F-16 fighter jets to release seven bombs on various targets within Cambodia. The ministry insisted that Thai military aircraft had not ceased their bombing activities, despite Trump's announcement of a ceasefire agreement. Trump had claimed on his Truth Social platform that he had engaged in positive discussions with the Prime Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, Anutin Charnvirakul and Hun Manet, respectively. He stated that both leaders had decided to halt sh ooting along their contested border, which had resulted in 20 fatalities over the past week. Trump alluded to a previous peace accord facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, which was initially established in July. He expressed optimism that both countries were committed to restoring peace and continuing trade relations with the United States. Contrary to Trump's statement, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul informed reporters on Saturday that no ceasefire agreement had been reached with Cambodia. He confirmed that the Thai military would persist in its operations along the disputed border.
