Cambodia and Canada Strengthen Diplomatic and Economic Ties

Phnom penh: H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), recently held a meeting with H.E. Christian DesRoches, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Kingdom of Cambodia, to discuss the enhancement of their countries' diplomatic and economic relations.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic ties and promoting bilateral economic and investment cooperation in an open and constructive spirit. During the meeting, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the Ambassador and expressed optimism about the positive outcomes of his diplomatic mission. He highlighted the significant results of the Investment Roadshow recently undertaken by a Cambodian delegation in Canada, which aimed to showcase Cambodia's investment potential and build a direct bridge connecting the business communities of both countries.

Furthermore, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Canadian Embassy and the Canadian side, which actively participated in ensuring the smoothness and effectiveness of the mission. He also emphasized Cambodia's unique position as the first country to sign a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States of America, which he said provides strategic advantages in enhancing Cambodia's confidence on the international stage.

In response, H.E. Christian DesRoches expressed interest in the Deputy Prime Minister's remarks and demonstrated a commitment to enhancing Cambodia's image globally, particularly concerning the social environment and investment landscape. He aims to ensure Canadian and international investors have a positive perspective on Cambodia's development. The Ambassador also praised Cambodia's progress in the logistics sector, especially the new infrastructure like the Techo International Airport, which facilitates international trade and transport.

Both sides also discussed Cambodia hosting the "6th Edition of the Francophonie Entrepreneur Meeting (REF)" in 2026, along with plans to organize supplementary events to attract investors from Francophone member countries and globally, showcasing Cambodia's favorable investment climate.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to maintain close collaboration to enhance cooperation and sustainable development for both nations.
