Phnom Penh:Cambodia and China have praised the progress in their bilateral cooperation in the security sector, focusing on combating transnational crime and online scams. This was discussed during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Maha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Chinese Vice Minister of Public Security H.E. Yang Weilin at the Peace Palace.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Yang Weilin led a delegation to the International Conference on Combating Online Scams in Cambodia. He conveyed greetings from Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping and Premier H.E. Li Qiang to the Cambodian Prime Minister.
H.E. Yang commended Cambodia's rapid development, attributing it to improved livelihoods for its people. He emphasized the strengthening of bilateral relations and the expansion of cooperation to build a Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future. The dialogue mechanism between the two countries has been elevated from 2+2 to 3+3, including Cambodia's Ministry of Interior and China's Ministry of Public Security.
The Vice Minister stressed the importance of continued cooperation in combating transnational crime and online scams. In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude for China's support in Cambodia's socio-economic development and welcomed security cooperation to enhance Cambodian law enforcement capabilities.
Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to eliminating online scams but noted the need for international cooperation. He also highlighted efforts to promote tourism and strengthen people-to-people ties, aiming to attract more Chinese tourists to Cambodia, emphasizing the country's safety and hospitality.
