Phnom penh: The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) have reached two important deals to boost Cambodian agricultural exports to the Chinese market.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, both sides signed a protocol on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) requirements for exporting beef products and dried longans from Cambodia to China on June 3. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in plant and livestock quarantine was agreed upon. The signing ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of MAFF, and H.E. Mrs. Sun Meijun, Minister of GACC, at the MAFF in Phnom Penh.
H.E. Dith Tina acknowledged the Cambodia-China agri-trade cooperation, which continues to produce positive results. Both parties have been working to expedite necessary procedures, including registration with GACC and formulating sanitary and phytosanitary protocols, to facilitate the entry of Cambodian agricultural products into the Chinese market.
The SPS protocol outlines conditions for care, harvesting, cleaning, processing, packaging, and transportation, ensuring exported agricultural products are free from pathogens, chemicals, pests, or infectious diseases that could harm human, animal, and plant health.
The signing of these protocols and the MoU demonstrates the commitment to strengthening and expanding cooperation, aiming to increase the volume of Cambodia-China agri-trade. Both countries will promote the export of potential agricultural products from Cambodia to China while ensuring quality and sanitary standards for mutual benefits.
