Cambodia and UK Sign MoU to Enhance Education Cooperation

Phnom penh: The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland have formalized a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in the education sector. This MoU aims to support the implementation of Cambodia's Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1 as well as the Cambodia Education Strategic Plan 2024-2028. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the MoU was signed in Phnom Penh on August 27 by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia, and H.E. Baroness Winterton, UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Dominic Williams, British Ambassador to Cambodia, senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and representatives from relevant institutions and stakeholders. The agreement outlines plans to expand cooperation in three primary areas: primary education, higher education and institutional partnerships, and scholars hip programs. H.E. Dominic Williams stressed the longstanding partnership between Cambodia and the UK, highlighting the significant role of education in socio-economic development and bilateral relations. Baroness Winterton expressed the UK's commitment to Cambodia's long-term stability and development. She emphasized the role of education in supporting Cambodia's aspirations to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. Education, she noted, is crucial for creating opportunities for individuals and nations alike.
