Phnom penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia and President of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC-2), held significant meetings with senior legislative leaders from Cameroon, Russia, Nepal, Indonesia, and Malaysia on August 27, during the conference in Phnom Penh.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the discussions centered on enhancing bilateral and parliamentary ties, expanding cooperation, and tackling regional and global challenges. The meetings were part of a broader initiative to deepen Cambodia's international parliamentary relations.
In his meeting with H.E. Ms. Din Bell Armande, Vice President of the Senate of Cameroon, both parties explored the potential for closer relations between their countries, focusing on legislative and executive collaboration. They also considered forming parliamentary friendship groups and establishing formal diplomatic relations to pave the way for wider cooperation.
During talks with H.E. Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Speaker of Russia's Federation Council, Russia acknowledged Cambodia's swift development and its growing significance internationally. Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed gratitude for Russia's involvement in the ISC-2 and the positive remarks. H.E. Kosachev also mentioned plans for a future visit to Russia by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, aimed at bolstering bilateral and parliamentary ties.
In discussions with H.E. Narayan Prasad Dahal, President of Nepal's House of Representatives, both leaders emphasized strengthening legislative relations. Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Nepal for its participation in the conference, while H.E. Dahal appreciated Cambodia's support during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation.
Meeting with H.E. Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, Speaker of Indonesia's House of Regional Representative Council, the dialogue focused on enhancing bilateral parliamentary cooperation and the proposal for an ASEAN Senate Forum, an initiative previously suggested by Samdech Techo Hun Sen. H.E. Sultan praised Cambodia's successful hosting of the ISC-2 and updated on Indonesia's preparations for the next conference.
In talks with H.E. Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of Malaysia's House of Representatives, the focus was on bilateral relations and pressing regional and global issues. The Malaysian leader lauded Cambodia's development, congratulated the Kingdom on the ISC-2, and highlighted Samdech Techo Hun Sen's leadership as an inspiration for Malaysian youth.
These engagements with the five parliamentary leaders underscore Cambodia's commitment to fostering international partnerships and addressing shared challenges, with the ISC-2 serving as a pivotal platform for such diplomatic endeavors.
