Cambodia Aviation Sector Sees 4% Decline in Passenger Numbers

Cambodia: Cambodia's aviation sector handled 2.4 million passengers in the first four months of 2026, a 4 percent decrease compared to the same period last year, according to a report released by the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) on Friday.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the report indicated that flight movements increased by 2 percent to 23,204, while air cargo volume saw a significant rise of 36 percent, reaching 30,448 tonnes year-on-year. SSCA Secretary of State and Spokesperson H.E. Sinn Chanserey Vutha emphasized the aviation sector's continuing role in enhancing tourism, trade, investment, and socio-cultural connectivity in the region.

The report highlighted that improved air connectivity and an increasing number of airlines operating services have contributed to more convenient travel for businesspeople and tourists visiting Cambodia. Currently, a total of 33 airlines, which include four domestic and 29 international carriers, operate flights to and from the country.

Cambodia's three international airports maintain their status as important regional hubs, facilitating connections between the Kingdom and ASEAN member states, as well as destinations in China, South Korea, Japan, India, Qatar, and other regions. Major international airlines such as Qatar Airways, Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways, and Turkish Airlines continue to be vital links for Cambodia, connecting it to Europe, North America, Africa, and the Middle East through their respective hub airports.

The SSCA noted that Cambodia's aviation sector recorded 6.98 million passenger movements in 2025, marking the highest figure in the country's civil aviation history.
