Cambodia Enforces Nationwide Ban on Online Gambling and Betting

Phnom Penh:The Royal Government of Cambodia has reinforced its prohibition on all forms of online gambling and betting across the nation, including activities within casino premises.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, 24 casinos located in the provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Banteay Meanchey, and Svay Rieng ceased all online gambling and betting operations after the deadline of September 30, 2026. The Secretariat of the Ad Hoc Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS) confirmed that these casinos have terminated activities such as live-streamed gambling, online football betting, online lottery, and online bird-fighting betting. Equipment used for these operations has been dismantled and removed.

Law enforcement officials, in collaboration with the Commercial Gambling Management Commission of Cambodia (CGMC) and provincial command committees, conducted inspections resulting in the cessation of online gambling operations. Monitoring will continue, and any violations will face strict legal actions to maintain public order and safety.

The Secretariat emphasized that all forms of online gambling and betting are strictly prohibited from the deadline onward. More than 600 locations suspected of involvement in online scams have been cleared in cooperation with relevant institutions and authorities.

Furthermore, the Secretariat and CGMC are investigating casinos potentially involved in technology-related scams. As of September 2026, licenses for 18 casinos linked to such activities have been revoked, while nine others have been suspended pending further investigations. Authorities are working to seize and confiscate assets from those involved in these offences.

The CCOS Secretariat remains open to cooperation and information sharing with the public, partners, and international organizations to combat technology-related crimes. Investigations and strict legal actions will follow any credible leads concerning suspected scam activities, particularly in casinos.
