Baku:At the First Media Forum of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Azerbaijan, Cambodia's Ministry of Information emphasized the role of media in fostering social cohesion, intercultural dialogue, and countering misinformation in a polarized world.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Information, delivered Cambodia's address under the theme 'Building Trust through Media in a Polarised World.' He praised Azerbaijan's Media Development Agency for organizing the event and highlighted the importance of journalism in promoting mutual respect across diverse populations.
The address detailed three core principles essential for media to act as a unifying force: fair and accurate representation of cultures and identities, promotion of everyday intercultural dialogue through joint content production, and fostering constructive public discourse. It was noted that responsible journalism should provide a fact-checked platform for respectful debate on sensitive issues.
The speech also emphasized the challenges and opportunities presented by digital technologies. While these technologies facilitate cross-cultural communication, they also make it easier to spread misinformation. Cambodia's 'Say No to Fake News' campaign was highlighted as a national initiative to promote media literacy and encourage citizens to verify information sources.
In conclusion, H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida reiterated Cambodia's dedication to working with CICA member states on collaborative media production, setting verification standards, and adopting ethical technology practices to enhance regional peace and trust.
