Phnom Penh:The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Cambodia hosted its 2026 National Day and Armed Forces Day Reception on October 1, drawing approximately 400 guests, including senior Cambodian government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the Korean community, and representatives from various sectors.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron attended the event as Guest of Honor, along with other senior Cambodian officials.
Korean Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Kim Chang Yong, in his welcoming remarks, emphasized the shared experiences of Korea and Cambodia in overcoming historical challenges and working towards a promising future. He noted the steady development of bilateral relations since the re-establishment of diplomatic ties in 1997, highlighting the 2024 elevation to a Strategic Partnership as a significant milestone. The Ambassador expressed hope for continued advancement in areas such as combating transnational crime, economic cooperation, development assistance, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Hang Chuon Naron praised Korea's economic and social achievements and expressed optimism for the further development of Cambodia-Korea relations, especially as the two countries prepare to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2027. He also stressed the importance of continued investment and development cooperation, given the existing trade agreements between the two nations.
The reception featured a variety of Korean dishes, including gimbap and bulgogi, allowing guests to celebrate Korea's National Day while discussing ways to enhance friendship and cooperation. The Korean Embassy indicated plans to use the 2027 anniversary as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across various fields.
