Phnom Penh:The International Conference on Combating Online Scams (ICCOS-2026) took place on September 23-24, serving as a critical platform for international leaders and experts to exchange knowledge and experiences. The event drew significant praise for Cambodia's efforts in hosting this major conference.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, delegates from the United Nations, the Philippines, and France shared their insights on Cambodia's initiatives against cybercrime. They emphasized that Cambodia's recent crackdown on online scams provides valuable lessons for the global community.
Mr. Joshua James, Regional Counter-Cybercrime Coordinator for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), commended the conference and highlighted Cambodia's efforts to dismantle scam centers nationwide. He noted the learning opportunities these efforts provide to the international community.
Attorney Noreliza R. Maru±g Manlangit from the Department of Justice of the Philippines acknowledged the Cambodian government's commitment to fighting online scams. She emphasized that these efforts help protect the national economy and vulnerable individuals from human trafficking.
Mr. Yannick Reibel, Head of the Online Fraud Group at the French Ministry of Interior, praised the conference's organization as "perfect." He pointed out that France also faces significant challenges from online fraud, underscoring the global nature of the threat.
Mr. Reibel emphasized the necessity of international cooperation among law enforcement agencies, stating that countries must not operate in isolation in addressing this issue.
The two-day conference brought together senior officials, policymakers, and law-enforcement authorities from nearly 30 countries and seven international organizations to share experiences, discuss emerging challenges, and develop collaborative strategies to combat technology-facilitated online scams.
