Phnom penh: The Ministry of Economy and Finance has announced new regulations targeting the domestic production of beer and non-alcoholic beverages to enhance market fairness and compliance within the sector.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ministry's recent directive to the General Department of Taxation outlines the Royal Government's decision to ban promotional prize schemes connected to beverage products. This includes prohibiting giveaways through can tabs, bottle caps, or similar formats.
The new policy mandates that all prize-based promotions for sugary drinks, particularly energy drinks, must conclude by the end of the third quarter of 2026. From October 1, 2026, companies will be prohibited from offering such promotions or producing, importing, or ordering beverage packaging with prize incentives.
The same rules will apply to alcoholic beverages, including beer. All promotional rewards associated with product packaging must cease by the third quarter deadline, with a total ban on related packaging production, importation, and new orders starting from October.
The measures aim to ensure fair competition in the beverage industry and strengthen regulatory compliance. The Ministry has directed the General Department of Taxation to implement the directive effectively, aligning with the government's policy.
